Foundations of Computer-AidedProcess Operations has been the premier conference in the area of chemical process operations since 1987. The conference offers valuable information on all aspects of enterprise-wide optimization and its integration with planning, scheduling, and control. In addition to being a very active area for academics, process operations have given rise to many challenging problems in industrial practice. These problems have necessitated the study and development of enabling technologies inthe area of optimization, which has remained a strong focus of past FOCAPO conferences. The conference has consistently attracted between 100 and 150 attendees, with nearly one third ofthem from industry and approximately 40% of the participants coming from outside the U.S. In 2012, FOCAPO will take place immediately before CPC VIII, with a joint programming day devoted to challenges and opportunities for integration of operations and control, especially in the context of emerging energy applications.

Technical Sessions

  • Enterprise-wide optimization
  • Optimization of multiscale systems
  • Risk management
  • Sustainable enterprise management
  • Integration of operations and control
  • New domains for operations & control research

Education Session

An interactive session will address educational challenges and opportunities at the interface between operations, optimization and control.

Panel Discussions

Panel discussions will address topics in enterprise-wide and supply chain management; integration of planning, scheduling and control; emerging technologies in the energy field; optimization; risk and uncertainty in operations.

Contributed Poster Presentations

Two poster sessions will showcase recent developments for both academic and industrial participants. All papers submitted for poster presentation will be peer reviewed and selected papers will be invited for oral presentation and publication in a special issue of Computers and Chemical Engineering that will be devoted to this conference proceedings.
